Kids who are from San Antonio know about the good things in life. Our clients from Alamo City tend to gravitate towards schools in places that are rich in culture. It’s no wonder given they grew up in a city with important history (and excellent food) all around.  Our clients from the area often divide themselves between top-tier state schools, like UT and smaller private universities far from home. Either way, competition can be fierce. Schools prioritize regional diversity, which means kids from the same state are often pitted against one another. And kids from Texas find themselves in one of the most populous states for college-aged applications in the nation.

We help our students from San Antonio get ahead by working with them to develop an academic niche throughout high school. We want our clients to explore their passions and dive deeply into the subjects that most interest them. We also help our students broaden their extracurricular activities around their areas of interest to create a resume that positions them as a strong talent in a particular field.

San Antonio Admissions Counseling: Our Method

We work with students throughout all four years, from freshman who want to get ahead to seniors who are scrambling after being rejected from their early decision school. Every part of our approach is customized. We often start out by building a timeline. While every timeline is different, here’s an example of one might look like for a junior:

  • January- May – Create a list of action items, identify ways to develop extra-curriculars

  • May – Complete school list, including reaches, targets, and safeties.

  • July- Finish the Common App, including essays, prepare additional materials (grades, test scores, letters of recommendation)

  • August 1st – Begin supplemental essay-writing and editing process

  • August-November – Fine-tune supplements and submit by December 1st

College Lists: We don’t just want our students to end up at top-tier schools, we want them to end up somewhere that’s a great fit for them. We help our clients get to know what they’re really looking for in a school and then build a comprehensive list of places where they would be happy.

Essays: We focus a lot on essays. In a hyper-competitive college environment, strong essays are a surefire way to stand out.  We help our students develop meaningful and strong essays that  set them apart from other applicants. Then, we edit everything until it’s perfect.

Extracurriculars: Each extracurricular activity in which students invest time and energy should be an expression of a particular academic area of expertise. We help our students build out extracurricular activities in a way that will impress admissions counselors. We also support our students in taking on leadership positions and expanding upon their activities in a way that’s interesting to them. We find that the best way to stand out is to find out what you’re passionate about and dive deep.
