Charlotte Admissions Counseling: Our Process

We customize our approach for every client. Below is a sample of what you can expect from our process:

BUILDING A COLLEGE LIST: We help our kids develop lists of schools that are a great fit for them.

  • Likes and Dislikes: We start out by having kids determine what they want in a school, but more importantly we help them figure out what they »å´Ç²Ô’t want. Brand names are all well and good (and our kids get into the nation’s top universities), but we want our clients to enjoy where they land. We help kids figure out what their aiming for in terms of proximity to home, size, social environment, and most importantly, academic offerings.

  • Tours: In the age of COVID getting to know a particular school can be difficult. We’re experts in college culture. We know a lot about most schools throughout the nation and work hard to get to know our clients well in order to help guide them through the process of matching somewhere that’s a great fit for their personality. We also help students prepare for college tours so they ask questions that will give them the answers they need to build a solid list.

  • Balancing the List: We focus on ensuring our clients have well-balanced list with target schools, reach schools, and safety schools, but all of which might be a solid fit.

CREATING A TIMELINE: No matter when our students start with us—be it freshman year or senior year—we start out with a timeline to help them get organized and focused around goals and milestones. The key to a successful application is to organize the process over several years. Junior year can be overwhelming on its own. We aim to help our students manage the stress of high school by appropriately spacing out actions early on.

ESSAYS: This is a hyper-competitive environment in which more and more of the nation’s top universities have acceptance rates in the single digits.  In addition, many schools have chosen to go test-optional in light of the pandemic. That means there are fewer opportunities on the application to standout. We believe the essays are crucial to demonstrating your personality to a university, which, in addition to great grades, is ultimately what they want to see. We focus a lot of time on each individual piece of writing our clients submit, from supplements, to the Common App, to the additional info. section.

EXPANDING EXTRACURRICULARS: Colleges want to admit classes full of experts in diverse academic areas. We work with our students to develop an academic niche that they’re really passionate about that they can explore in different ways throughout high school. Extracurriculars are crucial to this. We help students develop extracurriculars and take on leadership roles that will impress colleges.
